As summer draws to a close, EMTA reflects on another successful annual EMTA Intensive In-Residence phase. Held from July 8th through August 9th, this immersive experience marked a significant milestone for aspiring Montessori educators who embarked on a journey of professional and personal growth.
The journey for participants in this cohort began in January, where they laid the foundation for their learning through weekly online classes via Zoom. Throughout these virtual sessions, participants not only grasped the foundational concepts but also laid the groundwork for practical application during In-Residence.
The transition from virtual to in-person learning was a significant moment for participants as they converged on the campus of Montessori Academy for five weeks. Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm, they were immersed in a rich and dynamic environment dedicated to Montessori principles and practices. The training room, meticulously arranged to resemble a model Early Childhood environment, served as their sanctuary for exploration and discovery.
One participant from a previous cohort aptly described the training room as the “Cadillac of Montessori environments.” Indeed, surrounded by an array of brand-new materials, participants were empowered to engage in hands-on, experiential learning—a hallmark of the Montessori approach. Under the guidance of qualified and knowledgeable instructors, they navigated through lessons, activities, and discussions, each designed to deepen their understanding and proficiency in Montessori education.
For many, the In-Residence training represented a turning point in their careers—a moment where theory met practice, and aspiration met realization. It was a journey marked by challenges and triumphs, setbacks and breakthroughs, but above all, it was a journey of growth and empowerment!
